Lord Tullamore In Lord Tullamore, composer Carl Wittrock shows us his vision for Irish folk music. The result is a diverse three-part composition of rousing Irish folk with a continental touch. Cambridgeshire Impressions In a four-part composition Rieks van der Velde takes us to the richly varied area surrounding the university city of Cambridge.
The Dutch composer was especially inspired by the atmosphere of Cambridgeshire, the county which lies north of London.

1. The Journey.
Although on arrival the area looks peaceful and friendly, the ruggedness of its inhabitants and landscape have an unmistakable influence on the music.
In the course of the tour, which starts with an Allegro movement, we are shown the vitality, energy and freshness of the Cambridgeshire countryside.
Short themes, swift and sudden motifs and rhythmical patterns supported by the drive of percussion instruments give expression to this image.
The first part is concluded by two Calmo movements in which the music expresses how the cathedral in the city of Ely comes into sight and is gradually approached.

2. Visit to Ely Cathedral.
The famous Norman cathedral church of Ely, which was built in 1109, has attracted tourists from all over the world apart from being a place of worship and heritage site.
A cornet solo introduces the contemplative mood of the composition at this point.
The mystical atmosphere of the cathedral runs through this lyrical part like a continuous thread.

3. The Pub.
The thirst caused by this intensive journey makes a visit to the local pub a definite must.
These “public houses”, which may be open until the early hours of the morning, offer all kinds of entertainment.
Drinks are served liberally and the atmosphere is lively.

4. The Journey Back.
Time has flown: In other words, the moment of departure has come sooner than one would have wished.
In a flashback which recaptures elements of the first part of the composition we say goodbye to Cambridgeshire in a fitting manner.
Two scintillating final measures bring us abruptly back to the present.

Fanfare La Perie In 1911 the Russian impresario Diaghilev commisioned Paul Dukas to compose music for the famous ballet fairy-tale 'La Perie'by Jean Coralli.
Fokine was to make a new choreography, so that the Russian ballet company 'Ballet Russes' would be able to perform the piece in Paris that same year.
Due to a quarrel between Diaghilev and Dukas about who should dance the title-part, however, the ballet was not performed by the 'Ballet Russes'but by another company in 1912.
The ballet 'La Perie' is Dukas' last symphonic work.

The Seven Divine Properties Rob Goorhuis wrote this challenging work for solo euphonium with its marvellous title The Seven Divine Properties at the request of Danny Oosterman and after an idea of Anteun Hoesen. In fact, this piece came about because the Andels Fanfare Corps was going to record a CD in early 2012 exclusively with pieces by Rob Goorhuis. Anteun Hoesen plays the solo part in this piece on the CD.The concept of divine properties features heavily in various ancient religions: these are properties to which man can aspire—through striving towards divine properties one can evolve spiritually and become a better person. Different divine properties feature in various religions. In the Christian church, the terms Faith, Hope and Love play an important role. This composition is primarily written from an Old Testament point of view. The chosen qualities are as follows: Simplicity, Strength, Truth, Perseverance and Passion. After a short introduction of the thematic material, the various properties are depicted in musical miniatures.

The Kingdom of God A brilliant concert-march in the best British martial tradition.
Both the title and composition are based on the well-known hymn 'Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God'.

Fincastle Overture Fort Fincastle was built in 1793 by royal governor 'Lord Dunmore at an unusual location: Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas.
The name of the fort: Fort Fincastle' comes from Dunmore's second title of Viscount Fincastle '( Earl of Fincastle).
He gave the fort a particular shape, a circular building with a sharp expansion in the form of a bow or bow of ship. In order to deceive enemy ships.
The sounds of the first bars show the contours of a looming majestic stronghold, after a heroic theme follows. Soon we hear the threat of hostile elements.
Work on the fort means much waiting and lonely, but you should always alert and vigilant for the ever lurking attack.
After the turn of yet another attack there is a feeling of satisfaction and pride, we see the fort are on the hill towering above Nassau.

Land of Legends In ‘Land of Legends’ German composer Andreas Ludwig (what’s in a name) Schulte takes you along to the fictional world of legends, myths and fairy tales.
The introduction to the first part (The Castle) describes the majestic contours of the scene of action. Its instrumentation (horns) immediately makes you imagine being in Medieval spheres.
The addition of trenchant copper instruments even gives the part a heroic tinge. After entering through the gate, a lot of hustle and bustle appears to be going on in the courtyard. Pages, squires and soldiers are busy attending to their arms. Beer is being brewed, flax is being spun, cattle are being tended and some craftsmen from neighbouring villages are busily at work.
In the upper chamber of the round tower lives an old man (The Old Wizard). He hardly ever comes out, and nobody knows exactly what he is doing. It is said that he is engaged in wizardry and magic. It is all very mysterious.
There are also festivities, some of them sober, others exuberant.
The wedding in the third part is celebrated in a grand manner. With a flourish of trumpets, the bride makes her entrance at the hand of her father. Afterwards, at the party there is dancing to the music played by minstrels and of course a plentiful banquet follows.

Onward! A brief history: Pentecost Monday was a special day for schools in Yorkshire (England).
There were a variety of activities. The pupils of Sabine Baring-Gould would meet with the children of a nearby village. It seemed like a good idea that during the walk would be sung. But she could not find a suitable song and decided to write one by herself. "Onward Christian Soldiers" was the result.
It soon became very popular, though she herself was not entirely satisfied with the rhyme scheme. The melody used (St. Gertrude) was by the famous English composer Sir Arthur S. Sullivan.
Back to now: Gawan Roberts, has given the hymn a proper update. He gave the still popular song a solid rock beat and added daring harmonies. So it's popular, for current generations, again for years. Onward!

The Lonesome Knight The composition the Lonesome Knight was based on a fairytale. The piece was written by Saskia Apon for the National Brass Band Championships 2001.

Once upon a time there was a knight who went to fight and defeat the dragon that had been killing the people of his town.
There is a short but intense battle between the two and the knight is triumphant. However whilst persuing the dragon the knight has travelled far away from his home and now is lost. He roames around trying to find his way home, but exhausted and weary he falls to the ground. He awakens startled by a Giant and a group of Goblins who are celebrating the death of the dragon.
The knight joins in the festivities but after a long evening is once more left alone.
The sun rises the following morning and he sees a castle on the horizon. He enthousiastcally ventures towards the castle in the hope of meeting other people.
However he becomes greatly disillusioned when there is none to be found. In his desperation the knight climbs the tower ready to jump off.
Suddenly he hears a heavenly voice. Right before him is the most beautiful princess he has ever seen. She graciously thanks him for killing the dragon, a spark ingnites between them and they build a life together and.... live happily ever after!

Saskia Apon studied harp at Rotterdam School of music. With this instrument she rounded of her studies by passing with credit, however it was her love of composition that remained her focus.
Self-taught, she began composing at the age of nine. Since then she has written pieces for The Dutch Brass Quintet, The Dutch Brass Ensemble, The Rotterdam Trombone Quartet and the brass band quintet Brass Ability.
At present she is the in-house arranger for The Rotterdam Philarmonic Brass Ensemble.
Besides the customary attention for the real splashworks she endeavours to add value to the melodic function of the brass wind instruments in her music. The first movement (Allegro Con Spirito) gives musical expression to the majestic ship and its toiling crew.
In the second movement (Andante), the ship sails into port. It has been polished and technically everything is in order. The admiral will be proud when he inspects the ship.
Third movement (Allegro Molto): the captain and his crew are nervous (modulations) while working at the 'finishing touch'. The Navy Band is ready to receive the admiral !. He may be proud of his flagship.

Like a Child The young have the future. This is the statement made at the beginning of ‘Like a Child’ by Andreas Ludwig Schulte.
The opening radiates strength and ambition, but one is also made to wonder which direction will be chosen, which choices will have to be made.
After the introduction the first steps on the path of life are taken, still somewhat unsteadily (the 3/4th time used illustrates this uncertainty). However, the child has now set off and will meet the future with an open mind, unafraid, even though experience will teach it how easily it can be hurt.
Fortunately, it is sometimes allowed to be vulnerable and it discovers there will always be someone to offer shelter, support and love. (Adagio)
The last part breathes a far greater independence. Youth is able to face the future, it can even take on the whole world!

The Shopping Centre Many people when asked the question 'Do you have any hobbies?' will answer 'Shopping' (even though the female part of the population may be more interested in this than the male one).
Of course it is great fun to walk about in a Shopping Mall, browsing in various small shops, looking for things you have always wanted to possess.

This was what William Vean was doing one day when he came across the idea to write a composition in which several shops could try to sell their wares (and this idea didn't cost him a penny).
First, the audience are taken to a 'Jeans store', then a 'Phone shop' is visited, after which a visit is made to a 'Perfumery'.
The fourth part depicts a profession which is practised in several premises, namely that of shoplifter.
In the fifth part there is room for a bite to eat at a Chinese restaurant, and finally after a visit to the hairdresser's it's time to go home.
